Meet Chef Wesley

We get lots of emails and letters about the beans in use but my favorite are the occasional tributes from young fans, guaranteeing a new generation of bean people. Chef Wesley lives in Carlsbad, California. He's wild about cooking and he's been having some fun with beans.

Excuse me, but who wouldn't be thrilled if their dinner turned out like this 8-year old chef's? He did a great job.

It looks like his family had a quality molcajete to help them out with some authentic Mexican sauces. Wesley also likes to cook from Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc at Home cookbook and Fany Gerson's seminal My Sweet Mexico.

His experiments with churros were so sucessful that it inpsired me and my own nine year old chef, Nico, to make them ourselves. We tried to buy a churro press at the Mexican market we went to but they didn't have them and a very sweet abuela told us to just use a plastic bag and snip the corner. It worked but as you can see form the photos, I think Chef Wesley did a better job!

I have a feeling these didn't hang around for very long!

  1. It doesn’t surprise me that he is such a good chef. It run’s in the family. His mother is a fantastic chef too. Of course, I am biased, as Wes is my great nephew.
