A Tasty Break at Rancho Gordo: Rosca de Reyes and Champurrado

One of our favorite traditions here is to take a break on each 6th day of January and dig into a rosca de reyes. There’s a baby Jesus hidden inside and my memory is there was one but now it seems like there are four. I need to pay closer attention.

Angeles made some delicious champurrado to go with the cake and she was rewarded by finding the baby in her piece, which means that she must now host a tamales party for everyone. Some reward! Julia’s daughter Elle another baby but she didn’t seem too concerned about hosting almost 20 people for tamales. Mommy probably would help.

I asked Angeles for her recipe and she said it was 1 and half gallons of milk, one full bag of Rancho Gordo Pinole and 3 discs of Rancho Gordo Stoneground Chocolate. It wasn’t very sweet, which is most welcome after all the Christmas treats around here.
