Twitter is fun. It’s also painful.
Mario Batali doesn’t back down from fights, even though sometimes I think it feeds the trolls by responding them. I think he’s a great guy and should be able to say what he likes.
Not long ago, someone wrote:
Hi Mario, Big fan of yours. Was going to b
uy a jar of your sauce today but it was like $9. Really? WHY?
Batali responded:
Read the ingredients. Organic tomatoes evoo, fresh herbs, no sugar or corn syrup. It’s actually good for you !!
I think he was pretty nice about it. I don’t know how tactful I would have been but you need to consider where the original poster’s head was at.
Roxanne Sukol, who has been a bean advocate and is one hell of a doctor, also chimed in and I think this is one of the most important points of all:
Remind me–what’s a single day’s worth of diabetes medication cost again? If we don’t spend it on food we’ll spend it at the drugstore.
This is a great point.
Beans are one of the great food bargains. One lb of RG beans = 3 meals for us.
I love it! My friends enjoy the RG beans I make, and are always amazed on how much they cost. $6 dollars for a bag of beans! Oh my! Simple home ec shows that they are less than 50 cents a serving. The quality can not be matched along with the value it brings to communities.
